This is not a real guide, it’s more a comprehension of the food I encountered during my trip to Copenhagen Fashion Week last week. I had a lot of very good food, although I was pretty surprised to find vegetarian options to be offered rather scarcely (the vegetarian option at a press dinner was salad. As in: green salad). Still, the food I had was always fresh, original and tasty (and expensive, oh boy). So here are my recommendations, which some of you might find helpful.
The unbelievable cake pictured above is sold at Café Rosa inside of Copenhagen’s food halls, Torvehallerne (where you also find The Coffee Collective, a much praised Danish coffee venture). Café Rosa offers a selection of delicious sweets, cinnamon buns, pecan nut cake and the here pictured sin of a cake.

The Danish are overly talented in doing sweet little baked delicacies – and one of their masters surely is Meyers Bageri, located at Jægersborggade 9, Nørrebro, part of chef Claus Meyer’s imperium (as is Meyers Deli). I sincerly never-ever had an apple filled pastry (covered with poppy seed, which I love!) that good, crispy and delicious.
And one more tip in Nørrebro: Café Lyst at Jægersborggade 56, where I had a very good last breakfast. Organic scrambled eggs, hummus, joghurt etc pp nicely arranged on a plate in a very cosy surrounding. It feels a little like a student’s café, but the food is nothing like that.
The art of arrangement is presented in an unparalleled way at Café Norden at Østergade 61. The café itself is huge, though packed, so we decided to have our salads outside in the sun in a cuddly minus seven degrees. My broccoli salad was served with a toasted bread with goat cheese and a dill dressing in a small liqueur glass, but I didn’t really figure out what to do with it. Still, the salad was pretty good and its combination was original yet delicious. The plates of the other guests looked equally lavishly composed.
Last and definitely not least stands 42Raw, a place I want to return to as soon as I am back. The small take-away / deli offers food that is prepared at a maximum of 42 degrees and thus qualifies for a raw diet. They serve Chili sin Carne with raw creme fraiche (pictured above), salads, sandwiches, tapas, lasagne and a warm soup as well as a variety of fresh juices. I tested a juice called Stockholm, which was just very good. So I love the concept, the realization, the interior, the menu and the taste. A definite must-go, located at Pilestræde 32.
And a recommendation sans picture: Paté Paté, located in the meatpacking district at Slagterboderne 1 is beautifully furnished and has some very fine dishes on the menue. Just be sure to reserve a table, since without reservation it seems to be impossible to get food anywhere.
