Food in Berlin: La Femme

La Femme

This post is not so much about La Femme, a restaurant on Kottbusser Damm, but more about a certain dish. After posting about the baked potatoes at Joris, I was pointed to the Turkish version of it, Kumpir, that is widely available in Berlin and still I never tried it.
La Femme was recommended by a friend and it certainly offered a fine version of this Turkish baked potato. What makes it special is that after baking the potato in aluminium foil, the cooked inside is mashed and mixed with butter and/or cheese. The topping you see in the above picture, is basically everything they offer at La Femme, since the waiter told us this would be the “traditional Turkish way” of serving it. I am quite sure the dish would have benefitted from less toppings and I think this hearty delicacy is best eaten if either very hungry or very hang-over.
Anyways, I am up for more recommendations of very fine Kumpir in Berlin – let me know where you get your favorit in Berlin in the comments!

So sorry we missed this place on our recent trip to Berlin. There were so many good places to try and too little time. This definitely looks like a must visit next time around!

This looks really great. Love how you make your photos and how you use your 50mm lens. Do you have your 5D always with you?

I cannot thank you enough for this review. I traveled to Berlin last week for the first time and booked a dinner reservation here for our last night. The food and atmosphere were wonderful! What a neat little tucked away gem! The food was just wonderful, and we loved that it lasted over three hours. The kitchen is open so you can see the chef prepare everything. The decor was unusual and worked very well. I thought the cost of 45 euro per person to be well worth it. It made for a memorable evening on our last night celebrating our anniversary. Thank you!
