After walking around 3rd street and shopping a little too much (like those Keds at Opening Ceremony, or just too many of those cute looking products at Benefit, that all promise great help) we took a break at Joan’s on Third, skipping on the heavy sweet treats at Magnolia’s across the street, and instead went for salad, an artichoke and an egg salad sandwich in this bustling deli.
The market place has opened in 1995, after Joan came to the West coast from New York to “start a family”, as the website says. People of LA seem to love this place, while browsing through the displays, we received several recommendations from other costumers, which proofed to be really great (the artichoke), while others not so much (the fat/calories/additives/salt/everything-free popcorn in the family package, but then, all those dietary products just taste flat (I mean: I can’t believe it’s not butter)).
Anyways, this place is great, the sandwich was very fresh, with a thick layer of egg salad, tomata and arugula and some spicy pickled cucumbers. My friend’s artichoke was really tender and her salad with goat cheese, pecans and chicken was best she had in LA so far. We found another favorit, thanks to Alex for the tip!
