Might just be the most beautiful place in the world, take Highway 1 from Los Angeles to San Francisco up north, preferably during sunset and then indulge the breathtaking landscapes of Big Sur. I know, these pictures are unbelievably cheesy, but at the end, as a reward you’ll find down below: the sea lions in an extra-large picture(!).

Life in Silver Lake basically centers around Silver Lake Junction, an agglomeration of several cafés, a cheese and a flower store at the crossing of Sunset Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd, with the main attraction being Intelligentsia, a third wave coffee house with all-hat-wearing* barristas.
We’ve been trying to visit architectural landmarks, especially private houses, since we came here, but most of them are not visible from the street level, so many of our trips weren’t very successful. Of course, one can book tours and this seems to be the only way to actually visit the premises, I mean, at least we tried. The first architectural sight we’ve really seen is John Lautner’s Chemosphere house, a beautiful ufo-like structure resting on a single concrete pole, located just off Mulholland Drive in the Hollywood Hills.
Of course, we went to a / the drybar. And of course, we got the American starlet/ popstar/ actress/ whatever look with a whole lot of curls. Every woman looked the same when she left the bar. I felt like a country singer, 20mins later my curls where straight again, Spaghettilocken as we Germans call it. 35$ for 20mins All American girl.
I took this picture of my friend’s curls on a rainy day in the hills while hunting case study houses, using the Canon EOS M and the 22mm lense in “creative automatic” mode, again.

After walking around 3rd street and shopping a little too much (like those Keds at Opening Ceremony, or just too many of those cute looking products at Benefit, that all promise great help) we took a break at Joan’s on Third, skipping on the heavy sweet treats at Magnolia’s across the street, and instead went for salad, an artichoke and an egg salad sandwich in this bustling deli.
