Recap: Warm Up

Yesterday saw the first Warm Up, a clothing donation event in support of Kältehilfe Berlin at Voo Store. And it was amazing. Never would I have expected so many people to come and donate, not speaking of the masses of winter warmers people brought in. In total over 250 people donated 1711 kg. Which is 1,7 tons of winter clothing. Which is in words one thousand seven hundred eleven kilogram. Can you believe it? I still can’t.

Maria, who together with her boyfriend donated over 70kg.

From the beginning at 3pm until 7pm we had a line through the store with people schlepping in countless bags, suitcases and boxes filled with coats, boots, sweaters and much much more. The top donors were a lovely couple, who actually organized their own donation call in their office and in the end assembled over 70kg of clothing. But with an average of 7kg of donations a person, you can imagine how overwhelmed we were. Already an hour after we started, we were out of lottery tickets – I bought 700, thinking that if 500g of clothing give you one ticket, it would be a great success if we gathered 350kg of clothing. Improvising at best using all pieces of paper we were able to find in the store, we filled the lottery container with over 3000 tickets.

At 7pm we started drawing the tickets to give away 23 prizes sponsored by Aesop, Big Stuff BBQ, Glut&Späne, G-Shock, My Kilos, Mykita, NikeNo. 74, Paper and Tea, Philipspro qm, Schwarzhogerzeil, The Flag, Voo, Wald, and 032c. ♡

Happy Winners

Many thanks also go out to Daniel’s Eatery who provided us with the most delicious cookies and cakes as well as Companion Coffee who made an unbelievable number of 150 coffees in 4 hours and who will both donate a share of their revenue to Kältehilfe.
I also have to thank my volunteers, Becki for piling up things like a Tetris champion, Daniel for his relentless weighing, Jessica and Katharina for their impeccably written lottery tickets, Toby, Yasin and Herbert for their Origami-like ticket folding skills, Pascal for taking photos and Dirk for making the video (which will come soon!)

And of course to all of you who came and donated – THANK YOU.

Such a kind, smart, and heartwarming event! I I lived in Berlin, I would’ve participated, for sure!
I would like to make something similar where I live!
    Congrats for the big success!
