Food in Berlin: The Breakfast Market

I’ve said it before and I’ll says it again – against all prevailing expectations – Berlin doesn’t have a great breakfast-scene. Besides the usual croissant with coffee, there’s basically only the mixed plate filled with more or less unremarkable cheese, fruits and spreads. I am exaggerating, obviously, but only because the end of breakfast-tediousness is near! The guys of Markthalle 9 came up with a fabulous new idea: The Breakfast Market. So fabulous indeed, that without any promotion (besides some printed flyers), the event already attracted 2,800 morning-eaters to click “attend” on Facebook.
Lucky me, I got a very early preview on what the market has to offer in terms of early-day-dishes and I can already tell you it will be a feast. You better go easy on that Saturday-night-dinner because it will be packed with delicious options from hearty pork belly to light wheat grass. But take a look for yourself:

Berlin’s Best: Coffee Guide

The discussion about where to have the best coffee in Berlin is a highly emotional one, supporters of the Third Wave Coffee movement demand elaborate technical brewing methods and lovers of the Italian style ask for the softest foam – we’re left in between. Appreciating a cold brew on hot days, as well as a comforting espresso with smooth milk as a pick-me-up on slow work-day afternoons. Lucky for us, Berlin’s coffee scene is thriving to say the least. While the ultra-hype might have cooled off over the past two years, having a delicious coffee is still a big concern for many of us. In this list, we’re covering our favorite places (sorted from A-Z) for a caffeine kick, from new-comers like 19 grams, big hitters like The Barn, to the established institutions like Double Eye. Just to make sure you’ll get a good coffee wherever you are. (At least almost, beyond the park is a whole other story.)

This week has been busy for me, planning a major thing I will tell you about next week… (maybe). This is why I asked instagram for help, looking for a perfect-Berlin-moment captured in a square and made even better with a filter. Over 400 images tagged with #linksinberlin were submitted and I had a hard time deciding… But there are many weeks coming where we can feature those and thus I decided to start with a classic: early summer bliss by the canal, pictured by instagram user @bye_boring.

Discover This: Sieniawka

Like a fly in slow motion the camera moves and moves and moves, in constant search for new impressions, new images, new discoveries, new moods to capture. The camera eye takes its time, like the entire film does, and takes us, the audience, deep into an unreal world which is created through the mind and the memory of its filmmaker and cameraman Marcin Malaszczak.
