Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin is never only about design based in Berlin – besides myriads of newcomers from all over Germany, it regularly attracts designers from other European countries with one of the most steady participants being Romania.
The Romanian fashion scene might be small, but it has its highlights and certainly a powerful support from local audience and government. For over four seasons a selection of Romanian designers have been showing their latest work at Berlin fashion week and the designers used the time to enjoy all the amenities of our city. Like Adelina Ivan, who I met at Bite Club Mitte this past Saturday, where she not only presented her new designs but also happily indulged in the vegan treats Mitte’s favorite street food market had to offer.
Adelina loves to be in Berlin, not only because many of her friends already live here, but because the city provides her with loads of inspiration for her work. No wonder she says her designing style fits that of Berlin, laid-back and casual, yet never careless nor inconsiderate. Her clothes are reduced to black and white with an occasional color-burst and her flowing cuts meet soft fabrics.
Her favorite food on the market was definitely the vegan lemongrass tofu bao burger by Bun Bao, although she equally loved the pineapple tacos from Taco Kween. Bite Club assembled even more favorites for this fashion week edition, from the Käsespätzle at Heisser Hobel to Bun’s Mobile’s burgers, Maria Maria Arepas, Zwei Dicke Bären’s ice cream sandwiches and a Singleton Whisky Bar. The latter making a special cocktail inspired by Romania called “Transylvanian Bite” combining Sunray, grapefruit, Cherry Heering liqueur and Antica Formula.
