It’s so lovely to watch Berlin grow as a foodie-city and enjoy its rising fame and the fruits of a decade-long development. 2014 has been an especially good year for food in Berlin, not only because I discovered new favorites and cherished old time loves, we enjoyed great food festivals, listened to kitchen tunes and watched new initiatives bloom, but because you, the readers, have developed an even bigger craving for recommendations and then showered the reviewed places with loads of love making their effort worthwhile. 2015 holds new promises, but let’s rest for a moment and praise the stars of the past year with a list of the ten most popular food places of 2014.

Yes, I am basically sharing my winter-to-eat-list with you, as Berlin is now a city where so many new restaurants open, us very professional food-explorers need a list to not overlook one. As with all new openings some of them might still have some bugs to fix and thus deserve more leeway than the ones who’ve been around for some time. Which is the reason I rarely visit a place during the first weeks, because most of them need at least a month to bring everything up to standard. We’ve got months of cold and dark days ahead of us, that prospect will instantly feel lighter when there’s a dinner or lunch at one these newbies planned. Eat on:
Still don’t know what to give for Christmas? Well, why not go local and bring something from the city we all love the most? But don’t fret, this list doesn’t recommend plush-Currywurst-toys or ombre-Fernsehturm-candles, but original and beautiful products by small and independent brands in Berlin. Husch, Husch, Go shop!
Thank you so much for coming by last Saturday to celebrate the birthday of our favorite food-party, Burgers & Hip Hop, with a European battle of the patties – we felt excited, delighted, happy, exuberant, bubbly, and all the things you feel when so many lovely faces show up for your birthday party. And thank you all for enjoying the burgers our local heroes and European guests served you, and voting for your favorite – we guess you also can’t wait to find out who made the best burger of the night, can’t you!? Enjoy:
Well, the present-hunting season started weeks ago, but some of us (me) are always late and thus so very thankful for the popping up of various small Christmas stores all over the city, providing us lazy shoppers with a plethora of choices to score high on the gift-giving-scale. And first and foremost, support local business and creatives – most of the shops recommended here are not made with profit in mind, but with the passion to share and support local work and thus create sustainable gift-giving. No more Mon Cherie boxes! No more random DVD-sets! No more lazy vouchers for high-street brands.
Take your time, mark your calendars and hit the streets to pay these beauties a visit:
