Guide: The Best Christmas Pop-Ups

Well, the present-hunting season started weeks ago, but some of us (me) are always late and thus so very thankful for the popping up of various small Christmas stores all over the city, providing us lazy shoppers with a plethora of choices to score high on the gift-giving-scale. And first and foremost, support local business and creatives – most of the shops recommended here are not made with profit in mind, but with the passion to share and support local work and thus create sustainable gift-giving. No more Mon Cherie boxes! No more random DVD-sets! No more lazy vouchers for high-street brands.

Take your time, mark your calendars and hit the streets to pay these beauties a visit:

Giftshop at Bar Babette,
The annual art-gift-shop at this Karl-Marx-Allee-institution continues its tradition of connecting young and established artists with connoisseurs lacking the big money. All art works are available for less than 500,- Euro, happening on the 3rd Advent only. Artists include Amelie Grözinger, Christian Jankowski, Lisa Junghanß, Rosa Merk, Jorinde Voigt, Erwin Wurm and many many more.
Karl-Marx-Allee 36, Dec 14th, from 18.00, more info here.

Zweimeilenladen
A simple yet striking idea – this store only offers what’s produced in the vicinity of (approximately) 2 miles – that was born in Hamburg and arrived as a guest at Moritzplatz for this holiday season. Offering mostly delicious food products by local heroes like Companion Tea, Glut und Späne, Tausendsuend, Zwei Dicke Bären and many more, it will make a great gift-basket-filling.
Oranienstraße 58, Mon–Sat 12.00–20.00; Sun 13.00–18.00, until Dec. 21st. More info here.

Wild Heart Free Soul Bazaar
Bringing Anatolian culture to Berlin, this bazaar has an amazing choice of vintage Kelims, Kelim-pillows, embroidered Suzani-throws and silk pillows from Uzbekistan, and so much more, you’ll have a hard time to decide and in the end keep everything for yourself. With fans all over the city and a limited stock, you should be quick to visit on one of the Advent weekends.
WHFS-Atölye, Elisabethkirchstraße 13, Fri–Sun 13.00–18.00, until Dec. 21st, more info here.

Souvenir’s Christmas Gift Shop
Not really a pop-up, this beautiful store on Torstraße is known for its artist editions with famed contributors like Katharina Grosse, Jonathan Meese, Daniel Richter, Jen Ray and many more. A special Christmas exhibition will showcase that essentially all of their editions will make superb presents.
Torstraße 76, Fri–Mon 13.00–19.00, until Dec. 22nd. More info here.

Markthalle Neun Christmas Market
Our favorite market hall turns into our favorite Christmas market hall this year – expect exciting yet festive delicacies, crazy variations on Glühwein, a well selected choice of hand-made presents, cookies and other specialities from Markthalle-favorites.
Eisenbahnstraße 42, from Dec. 9th. More info here.

Ace & Tate Berlin
No, it’s not necessarily a great season for sunglasses, and yet I am recommending you the pop up shop of this online brand. Not only because they also feature a very nice and yet so affordable range of prescription glasses, but because I believe in self-fulfilling prophecies and optimism.
Torstraße 66, Mon–Sat 12.00–20.00, more info here.
