There’s a new store on the banks of Kreuzberg’s Landwehrkanal: Candy on Bone (a name dreamed up by owner Ludwig Cramer-Klett of Katz Orange and Contemporary Food Lab fame). It’s a true deli, offering sandwiches, coffee, cake and, what I think is most interesting: a very well sorted Lebensmittel store.
And I mean that: shelfs and tables (courtesy of furniture label Buchholz) are filled with rhubarb salt flakes from Iceland, marshmallow bars, mace and birchsap. This pretty little store will satisfy all your extraordinary cravings without losing sight of the daily needs: tasty olive oil, intense tomato sugo, spicy mustard, bread from Soluna, milk, fresh eggs and herbs are also part of their range.
In the back room, just next to the chocolate truffles, a big choice of special booze awaits you: different kinds of gin, vermouth, liqueurs and mezcal, as well as the necessary sodas. Plus a nice selection of contemporary cook and food books and house made chutneys, spreads, granolas and sauces. Also: flower bouquets!
It’s an upscale Späti, if you like – except the current opening times. Next door is the deli, serving you a choice of sandwiches and salads, alongside coffee, sweet treats and drinks, making this one a prime spot for getting everything you need for a picknick by the canal. (Soon, people, soon!)
