Update – I’m very sad to bring you the news, that Kanaan Kreuzberg has closed its doors, focussing all their energy on their Prenzlauer Berg location.
Be honest, how many of you have read this recommendation of Kanaan in Prenzlauer Berg and really wanted to go but it’s just too far north? Don’t cry, my fellow South-Berliners, you can now eat the glorious chickpea-dishes of this most amazing Israeli-Palastine joint venture in Kreuzberg!
Just a few months after opening their deli in Prenzlauer Berg, Ben Oz David from Israel, and Jalil Dabit from Palestine got the offer to take over a tiny space on Kreuzberg’s Blücherstraße, just off Südstern. And up for it they were, to the luck of all of us.
It’s not more than a hole-in-the-wall, but the menu is as satisfying and the dishes as delicious – Kanaan Express serves you hummus, either classic or topped with sabich ingredients: boiled egg, fried aubergine, amba mango sauce, tahine and schug, a spicy Yamenite pesto (pictured above). As well as Masabacha, Shakshuka or the very filling combo of Shakshuka and Hummus called Hummshuka, and Malawach, the Yemenite pancake. All is available either on a plate or in a fresh baked pita bread. You see, perfection!
