Sweets in Berlin: Brammibal’s Donuts

Thing is, I didn’t really like donuts. At least the type I knew, which was made by the big orange and pink D, who formed my idea of what a donut is a bit too much. When several people urged me to try the donuts of Brammbibal’s Donuts some time last year I was seriously like, “Nah, thanks, I’m good”, in the beginning. But then! I tasted one and since then I’m a devoted member of Team Donut. Team Brammibal’s Donuts, that is. I wouldn’t wanna risk my newly found love with a quick cheat. Here’s why…

Brammibal’s Donuts are different from everything you ever ate which called itself donut but was really just an overly sweet, fried piece of dough. Since they started their donut business a couple months ago, they’ve already assembled an impressive fan base. In the beginning, they’ve sold their goods at events like Burgers & Hip Hop and Street Food Thursday, and were regularly sold out after just a couple hours. I remember this one time at Burgers & Hip Hop when I had to be at the door, seeing people literally shlepping out boxes over boxes with donuts and I totally freaked out with fomo, sending several messages to friends asking them to save me some in time. All caps, obviously. And when they joined the Stil in Berlin Breakfast Market in May, it was the first thing I ate well before the opening, because I was so scared they were sold out before I had the time to come around again. And they were.

Luckily, the time of donut-fomo is finally over since they opened their own shop at Maybachufer, where they sell donuts all day from Tuesday to Sunday. And since they go so well with coffee, they offer a big choice of speciality coffee. If you’re coming with friends who don’t have a sweet tooth, they can have the excellent bagels of Fine Bagels with toppings, while you eat your way through their many varieties like salted caramel, matcha, strawberry cream cheese, espresso, maple coconut bacon, blueberry coconut, rosemary, and so on and on and on…

And before I forget, everything’s vegan and free of any artificial products. Can it get any better, really?

By the way, Brammibal’s Donuts is also on our Best Places in Berlin map, together with almost 100 other excellent places to eat, drink, shop and frolic. Get it here.

Vegan sweets, if you aren’t vegan, are garbage. No exceptions.

If you are vegan, OTOH, vegan sweets are a lifesaver.

What a weird generalization. I’m not vegan, and I love these vegan sweets. And also a lot of other vegan cakes!

I like to think they’re not really unhealthy, because they’re vegan.

I was so excited about these after reading the review and then I ate one … I was so dissapointed :(. The dough was fresh and good, but the icing is pure sugar. I had the matcha-pistachio one and it tasted like sugar, without matcha. I wouldn’t go back.
