It’s already three year’s ago that Stil in Berlin’s Mary Scherpe said “Let’s do a film festival” – more or less in passing – and two months later the first ever Berlin Art Film Festival took place at Fsk Kino. What is it all about? Art films, experimental stuff, porn, films about Berlin-based artists and poetic narratives – but in a nutshell: We want to show Berlin in a different way – edgier, fresher, beyond the canon and adding art film classics on top. The concept worked, the festival moved to Moviemento and will open its doors this Thursday for a third time. We couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to some of the highlights!
How does this sound for your Saturday breakfast: poached egg, bacon, haricot beans with leek, kale and herbs, haloumi-parsnip fritters, Persian saffron shakshuka with black beans, marinated chickpeas, saffron hollandaise, charmoula marinated beets? Because, yes! It’s that time of the year again! Das Brunch is back with their lavish morning food feast, this time in Neukölln, with a better menu than ever, plus all of it is benefiting the host, Sharehaus Refugio! And an extra special super goodie courtesy of yours truly.
Tis’ the season! Let’s go gift shopping! Bring your loved ones something special from the city we all love the most. But instead of going for a stupid candle in the shape of the Fernsehturm or a useless breakfast plate with an image of Siegessäule warped by an insane filter, how about shopping your gifts at local store? Here, I’ve listed ten amazing gifts all made by inspiring, small scale, Berlin based businesses!
Drum Roll please! First, I want to give a shout out to everyone who showed up to help us and the team of Burgers & Hip Hop celebrate the third birthday. The day was cold, but inside Prince Charles we hung out and dined on our picnic tables like it was summer. Huge thanks to the Tatas’ Muffle stand (recall: mix between muffin and waffle) who made the whole room smell sweet and buttery. The white Glühwein too, with a slice of apple and orange (optional: extra shot of bourbon but #youdoyou), kept our hands warm as we waited in line for this year’s burgers. Speaking of which, BURGERS…
I’m working on making this one a tradition: going out of Berlin on an Ausflug to Brandenburg, hiking through the forests and meadows to return and have a Chinese dinner with friends. All happening preferable on a Sunday late afternoon, so there’s enough time in the day to still do loads of nothing when I come home, which is very important for my weekend routine. Lucky me, many places in Berlin cater to those in need of a spicy feast, and this is one of my favs, especially because they serve a delicious gluten cake with mushrooms and peanuts, and a great plate of fried aubergine.
