If you know me, or you’ve read this blog for a bit, you know I’m very, if not the most prejudiced against Friedrichshain. There are a couple of places I dearly love and won’t stop visiting and supporting. One of them is Aunt Benny, who serve the area with the most delicious cakes, sandwiches, and other treats, in a laid-back, grown-up atmosphere. One more reason to pay them a visit is this: they’re serving the finest grilled cheese in Berlin – with a cheese mix that’s totally on point. Order a Whisky Sour with it, and you’ll be set for the night.

I love me a little, cute Kiezcafé – neighborhood café – not too big, with good coffee, some great baked treats, nice people who at one point know you by name, maybe a dog called Ketchup, and such. Imagine you had all this and then added on a menu of delicious breakfast dishes? And a rotating menu of sweet buns, with kanelbulle available everyday, plus a daily special like blueberry, cardamom, vanilla, marzipan, or – on Sundays – Nutella buns! Sounds more than okay, right?
It certainly wasn’t the weather we were hoping for, but this was no reason to not fire up the trompo, add loads of chili to the salsa, and bring all the fresh coriander – Burgers & Hip Hop was taken over by tacos this past Saturday, celebrating this Mexican street food in loads of varieties. You came, you feasted, and you voted – over 500 votes reached the boxes. So we found current holder of the Burgers & Hip Hop Tacover trophy. Read on to find out who made the tastiest of all the tacos.
A new addition to my Dogs in Berlin series! One for when you’re in the mood to spoil your pup. Because this is the most well designed and assorted dog store in Berlin, thanks to the meticulous selection of products and the spacious presentation. It’s my favorite, and I wanna say that of my mutt Nico. She loves it here, also because she’s showered with all the attention and the treats of the super friendly and knowledgable staff.
You might already know the name “Shaniu” from a previous recommendation for Chinese food on Pariser Straße – just now they added a new spot: Shaniu opened a café a couple doors down the road from her restaurant, calling it Shaniu Café, where she serves Korean food (she’s Chinese-Korean herself) plus, every now and then, Chinese breakfast dishes!
I only know about it because one morning I received an excited text message from my friend Ash Lee, obviously her excitement easily caught me, and sooner than later we were both on the way out West, decoyed by pictures of plump dumplings and thick churros.
