Goulash in Kreuzberg: G wie Goulasch

It’s August, the weather finally resembles something like summer, and the city is slowly falling asleep. We might not have the real Italian or French vacances-shut-down, but it’s certainly a downtime, with shops and restaurants going on holiday. And locals leaving the city, while loads of tourists flock to the major sight seeing spots – so most Kiezes do feel quite sleepy. And while I’m not going to be totally absent, I too will take August to slow it down, recharge batteries, and explore the city from another perspective (outside of its borders). So here’s a recommendation I wanted to give you all along: a very pleasant restaurant on the quiet Chamissoplatz square in Kreuzberg called G wie Goulasch, made for summer night dinners.

Dance Battle at Burgers & Hip Hop

Berlin’s Best Burger: Smoked Meat Special

Berlin summer is a shit this year, but who cares, really – we used the little sun and warmth the current season gave us, turned up the heat on the grills, added some smoke, and created the hottest party of the weekend with the Smokey Soul Special Burgers & Hip Hop Block Party! We had six contenders in the running to prepare the most delicious bun fillings for the crowd to enjoy. In between, you guys danced your feat off in the OutBox Me dance battle, only to return to the very important task of voting for the bestest bun-creation. As many burger-evangelist already noted, we were very, very open this time when it came to what can be called a burger, and decided to go all out for smokiness. That’s why this list will probably seem quite un-burger to some. Don’t worry though, the winner is (almost) a real burger – read on to find out who took the crown this time!

Coming Up: Das Brunch

A weekend of heavy and delicious over-eating is coming up, let me tell you that – because before you’re heading for burger heaven at Burgers & Hip Hop’s Smoked Meat Special, you’ll have to join the feast that is the seasonal morning food celebration Das Brunch. It’s the tenth edition, and maybe even the last? This time, it’s happening in a former freight depot turned center for arts and culture, ZK/U, in Moabit, it will definitely be a feast for the eyes and your palate, with brunch dishes that fuse Australian, German, and Middle-Eastern flavours – read on for a droolworthy menu-preview!

Coming Up: Burgers & Hip Hop Smoked Meat Special

Summer is what you make of it, so we’ll definitely be all in for the upcoming Burgers & Hip Hop party on Saturday, August 5, in your favourite backyard off Moritzplatz. To make things even better we chose a very special theme: it’ll be all about smoked meat! All of those smoking hot burger artists will be putting the finest smoky meats in between two buns for you to enjoy – come join us in the backyard of Prince Charles, when we celebrate Burgers & Hip Hop topped with a serving of Soul with a hot side of a soul train dance battle!

Brunch in Neukölln: Isla

Now that Sweethearts’ final weekend is here, I want to give you an alternative in the same area, that is equally delicious and creative: Isla – a pretty speciality coffee shop on the gritty corner of Hermannstraße and Columbiadamm. With an eye for sustainability, they’re striving to reach a harmonious business by reducing waste and creating holistic production cycles. Which makes their brunch only better, that is – the bread pudding is made with left-over kouign amann and left-over steamed milk is turned into ricotta. And did I mention they’re doing it in a really pretty way?
