Chinese in Berlin: Da Jia Le

This place has been recommended to me over and over again, however, it took me a long time to try it and I blame that on its odd location – but when friends were inviting me to take a look at their new house around the corner, I used the opportunity and asked them to eat at this place serving Dongbei, Northeast Chinese, food. And yes, it’s worth traveling to this not very pretty part of Schöneberg.

Deli in Kreuzberg: Candy on Bone

There’s a new store on the banks of Kreuzberg’s Landwehrkanal: Candy on Bone (a name dreamed up by owner Ludwig Cramer-Klett of Katz Orange and Contemporary Food Lab fame). It’s a true deli, offering sandwiches, coffee, cake and, what I think is most interesting: a very well sorted Lebensmittel store.

Fine Dining in Frankfurt: Stanley Diamond

I had no idea who Mr Diamond was prior to my stop-over in Frankfurt last week. He was an anthropologist and poet. But that’s not the Diamond this marble-clad fine dining restaurant in Frankfurt’s infamous Bahnhofsviertel is referring to. Stanley Diamond was also the name of a member of the Jewish organized crime, born in 1940, 14 years after Maxie Eisen was shot. The latter being the name giver to the pastrami bar, which Stanley Diamond’s – the restaurant’s – owners opened a couple years before just some streets away. It’s all a family business…
