Brunch in Mitte: Commonground

So, as you know, I really like Silo’s breakfast fare. But there’s a major downside: it’s in Friedrichshain. Yeah, I get it, #notallfriedrichshain. But each time I give the neighborhood a shot I end up unconvinced and feeling icky. However, Silo ventured out into Mitte, and opened a second location inside of the Circus Hotel at Rosenthaler Platz! With an all-day breakfast menu! Served in a pretty and quiet garden where you can escape the Mitte rush! And enjoy your brioche french toast with berry mascarpone in peace.

Seriously: Ten New Food Spots We Have To Try This Summer

It’s summer! It really is! I started writing this new list when the rain was pouring down like crazy in the morning, and ended when the sun was shining and temperatures reached at least 20 degrees, which is the literal definition of Berlin summer. With the new season come a lot of news in the Berlin food scene, with loads of new openings of smaller and bigger ventures all over the city. Most of them in Kreuzberg and Mitte, but certainly not exclusively. From golden fries, to black ice cream and natural wine. This list should’ve something for everybody – if it doesn’t check the prior lists here.

Escape: Where to Eat in London

Finally, I finally went to London again! It’s been way too long, considering the insanely low prices for flights and the only 1,5 hrs it takes to get there, and the fact that I love it so much. I was rewarded with glorious sunshine, loads of friendly and interesting people, and oh so delicious food. London has for a long time served as a place of longing for Berlin food people, “this is what could Berlin could be” – at one point in the future, maybe? – they whisper to each other while walking the food markets of East London. Does London have the best food in Europe? I wouldn’t disagree.

Sandwich at Mo's Kleiner Imbiss, best Falafel in berlin

Falafel in Kreuzberg: Mo’s Kleiner Imbiss

I’ve written about this place before, but I feel like it still doesn’t receive the love it deserves. This teeny-tiny place on Urbanstraße is the literal definition of hole in the wall: you’ll order at a window facing the street, your food is prepared in a kitchen space that can host two people max, and there are four narrow seats on the street, from where you can watch the fancy roof top terraces on the building across the street. But it is a super delicious falafel, probably the best falafel in Berlin, so don’t miss it.

Baklava and Kanafeh from the best Syrian pastry shop, Damaskus Konditorei

Syrian Sweets in Berlin: Damaskus Konditorei

You probably know that Sonnenallee is often nicknamed “Arab Street” due to the many Arab owned restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. For years, they’ve been mostly Lebanese owned, but with the arrival of many people from Syria in the past years, this has slightly shifted and the offered products and dishes are more diverse than ever. And it gets better and better – here’s one prime example for this development: Damaskus Konditorei is making the most delicious desserts, baklava, and kanafeh on Sonnenallee.
