Time to give you a guide to the best breakfast and brunch in Berlin – It’s a glorious day when there’s plenty of time for a breakfast, when you want a table filled with poached delights, baked goodies and drizzled everything. Lucky for us, Berlin has some very worthwhile options to fill your belly and warm your heart in the morning, from delicious treats piled on étagères and plates, mountains of buttermilk pancakes and heaps of thick sauces. What is very important – Berlin offers many locations where hungry earlybirds can get a fancy cocktail with their first meal, a quintessential part of every brunch. And this isn’t limited to the weekend, we can have decadent brunches now every day, at almost any time. Enjoy!
This guide was a long time in the making. I have repeatedly said that Berlin is not living up to its name of being a “breakfast-city”, while umpteen places offer breakfast, only really few manage to make a good one. However,
my ongoing laments had an effect the current change in the food scene has yielded fruit in the morning meal department – so much, in fact, that I had to divide this guide into two parts. While the epic and indulgent breakfast experience is coming up, this part is presenting you options for when time is limited. But that doesn’t mean you’ll have to lower your expectations when it comes to taste and satisfaction. There are a lot of places quickly serving you food that will give you a great mood for your day.
It’s Fashion Week, y’all! Have you even noticed? Seems like the presence of the most fashionable of the weeks dwindled over the past seasons, with lesser and lesser internationally (or even nationally) acclaimed big houses presenting their newest looks in the capital. But whatever, I was always in to support the locals anyway, pushing them to stardom! Or at least into your wardrobe, because fashion can be as beautiful as it wants, it needs to be bought to shine. And thus I am presenting you the much awaited update of the very important guide to shop Berlin designers in Berlin. It is not as simple as one thinks, albeit Kadewe is putting up a big show for the summer, and more and more labels are opening their own stores. Refer to this list when your shopping trip needs a lot more shop-local-attitude and invest in products directly from your neighborhood:
Soup night is my favorite night in winter, when Berlin can be so cold and grey, we tend to forget why we ever liked this city. Luckily, Berlin offers (not plenty but) enough coping strategies, first and foremost: steaming hot soups that will warm your belly and your soul and keep your mind from breaking thanks to the ice cold winds from the East. Let’s drown in bowls of soups filled with thick noodles, hearty broths and loads of flavor. Aka: plan your winter depression along this soup-route:
Still don’t know what to give for Christmas? Well, why not go local and bring something from the city we all love the most? But don’t fret, this list doesn’t recommend plush-Currywurst-toys or ombre-Fernsehturm-candles, but original and beautiful products by small and independent brands in Berlin. Husch, Husch, Go shop!
