Guys, it’s summer in Berlin. No one knows how long it will last (certainly shorter than we’re hoping or deserving) or how hot it will get (see parenthesis before), so it’s time to pack your bathing suit and start planning those lovely trips to one of the many lakes outside of Berlin. For example, go about 50 kilometers north, park your car in the woods and walk towards Bernsteinsee.
This beauty lies in a pine forest in Schorfheide, a huge forest North-East of Berlin and is best to be reached by car heading for Ruhlsdorf. (There’s a bus, or you can take your bike and cycle the 13 km from the train station in Melchow.) But if you made it up here, sandy (!) beaches and clear water will be your reward. There’s not much infrastructure here, some days a small snack shop is said to be open, but mostly it’s very quiet and secluded.
Which also means you’ll need to bring everything you’ll need, so get your picknick baskets ready and enjoy. Because you know that summer will never be as long as you’re hoping for.
