Update (07/15) Heno Heno left Kantstraße and will re-open at Wielandstraße 37 in August.
There are certain things in the West of this city, that I’d like to have closer to my regular whereabouts. And it’s mostly Asian food places, like the Thai Market, or Daruma, and Amazing Oriental and of course Dao! And one more place is on this list now: Heno Heno.
The tiny Japanese daily is quite far off in the West, located on the other end of Kantstraße, not even 1 km from the S-Bahn Ring. It doesn’t lead me here too often, but on a particularly hot day this week, I found my perfect lunch here: cold Udon noodles in a dainty broth and a fresh ginger lemonade – for not even 5 Euros.
The menu is as small as the kitchen, they serve vegetarian Don or Gyudon – rice topped with vegetables or beef in a dainty broth – Onigiri, some small sides like Nukazuke, pickled vegetables, and soups with either Udon or Soba noodles. The interior is as basic, the dishes are cooked just behind the bar, next to it are only some seats.
Exactly as I like it, tasty Japanese food in non-fancy interior. Too bad it’s so far…
