Food in Berlin: Bixels Exil

Ah, finally it’s that time of the year again. Infamous Bixels is opening its doors for one week of baked potato bliss!
After closing down his baked potato shop at Mulackstraße due to dispute with the landlord 1,5 years ago, Daniel Bixel has repeatedly found an exile at Club der Polnischen Versager at Ackerstraße to soothe his and our Kumpir craving. Nevertheless, one week and one week only it is, after Saturday the 12th of October the potato business is going back to hibernation mode. Daniel himself says it’s the best solution, he likes the excitement shortly before the opening of a new pop-up and is just too exhausted after six days of baking to imagine keeping a steady business.
This temporary concept of his naturally triggers my urgent will to get a Bixel potato as soon and as often as possible. Because they are delicious – the Autumn 13 edition features a meat version with wild boar ragout and a vegetarian option with baked pumpkin, goat cheese cream, dried tomatoes, pumpkin seeds and lentils, all on top of the warm potato mixed with cheese. Looking outside into the grey mushiness Berlin has already turned into this first week of October, Bixels colorful and intense potatoes are a welcome mood enhancer.
