How many of your New Year’s resolutions did you give up already? The one to exercise more? The one to finally separate your waste? Or maybe the one to eat cleaner, healthier or greener? I might have something for you to make the latter one a tat easier: Liquid Garden.
This small shop in the midst of Prenzlauer Berg specializes in fresh green smoothies (plus raw brownies with goji berries and shots of wheatgrass) and thus represent a huge knowledge in this field. And not only that, their main focus is to not only create healthy green smoothies, but tasty ones (very important feature).
I am not here to lecture you about all the advantages of a detox or cleanse or whatever, mainly because I do not believe in the theory that our bodies need help to get rid of „toxins“. But I am still devoted to green smoothies, because I think they taste great and have amazing nutritional value. Simply said.
But back to Liquid Garden, the lovely smoothie bar open since last November. They currently offer six different smoothies – the menu changes according to the seasons and the likings of the customer – all with at least 50% of greens, organic and always fresh, to take away in a 100% compostable cups or deposit bottles or enjoy on the spot. To offer a real alternative to your morning coffee, the smoothie bar opens at 8am on weekdays!
We started with a 0,3 serving of Rave Dave (4,40 Euro), a mix of spinach, savoy, orange and winter spices, my friend chose the Powerboost Breakfast smoothie with kale, wheatgrass, oats, cacao and almond milk with a lovely creamy texture and an a chocolaty taste that grew on us more and more. However, these are just excerpts of the massive list of ingredients of each, but no worries, we were overwhelmed as well, the friendly owner Nils Bernau helped us choose and later even brought us small samples of the others.
Like the Kickstarter, or as he put it, the advanced green smoothie with very few fruit and mostly greens like parsley, kale, celeriac and wheatgrass with an intense kick of lemon, ginger and chili. In case that’s not green enough, Liquid Garden will happily make you an only greens smoothie to your liking. As everything is prepared fresh, you can also ask for adjustments to the ones on the menu.
The current menu has every smoothie supplemented with so called superfoods like moringa, maca, cacao nibs, chia or goji. In spring, when the Brandenburg fields will be fertile again, Liquid Garden’s smoothies will feature more wild herbs.
Oh, the only not-green-in-color smoothie, the light pink Detox Dani, that has a lovely earthy taste thanks to intensely colored red beet, walnuts, raisins and rosehip, might be taken off the menu soon because plum season is so over. Just so you know.
