Coming Up: Warm Up 4

It’s that time of the year again! It’s getting cold and very uncomfortable in this city, and while it’s easy to survive the chilly season when you have enough funds for a warm coat, all the hot soups, and a cosy home to hibernate in, it’s one of the most grueling times for those not that lucky. And because I’m sure most of you have one or three extra warm jackets in their closet, or a pair of boots to spare, I’m asking you to come and donate them at Warm Up No.4, a clothing donation event benefiting Kreuzberg Hilft! I’ll make your effort worth your while, promised.

Just like last year, all your donations will go to Kreuzberg Hilft, a tremendous local organisation of volunteers coordinating activities and projects benefiting refugees and other people in need. In our first three successful editions, we collected tons of warm winter-wear, and now we’re in for another round of doing good (and Kondo-ing out). I want you to roam your closets, basements, and storages for your warmest coats and jackets, your thickest boots and shoes, and donate them on December 8th from 17:00 to 19:00.

To boost your motivation, I once again asked some of the finest Berlin restaurants, creators, and shops for support, and collected a range of stunning prizes. You will want them all, so here’s the list of our generous sponsors:

Loads of roasted coffee from Bonanza Coffee – a brunch voucher for Fine Bagels – a thick blanket from Folkdays – two 50 Euro gift cards for The Good Store – a 100 Euro gift card for concept store Hallesches Haus – a brunch for four at Isla – two 50 Euro vouchers for Kanaan – a dinner for two at Lode & Stijn – magic treatments of Magic Stripes  – goodies from MDC Cosmetic – a crate full of Motel Beer – a pair of sunglasses  by Berlin brand MYKITA – a carafe and glasses by Objekte Unserer Tage – a 50 Euro gift card from Ora – and I’m not even done collecting prizes!

Winning is easy: All clothing donors receive lottery tickets for a chance to win great prizes, and the more kilos you donate, the more tickets you receive! For the minimalists among you, whose closets are already cleaned out, don’t worry – you can also buy lottery tickets for 10 Euros each and support the cause through this monetary donation, which will go entirely to Kreuzberg Hilft as well.

All prizes will be given away during the lottery at 19:00, so you’ll need to attend to claim your prize. If a ticket holder is not present when their number is called, other numbers are drawn until we find a ticket holder who’s present.

HERE’S WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DONATE: COATS & SHOES

To make sure we only collect the stuff that’s really needed, here’s the wish-list we compiled with Kreuzberg Hilft:

  • New or used (but washed & intact) winter coats or jackets for men, women, and children – no wool or fur though!
  • New or used, but intact, winter boots and shoes for men, women, and children.
  • Tents, camping mats and sleeping bags – you’ll receive two lottery tickets if you donate those, that’s how much they’re needed!

Sadly we won’t be able to accept any other donations and will have to be strict. Anything else would create more work to store, and sort, clean, wash, and repair. If you have more to donate, check what is needed at Stadtmission’s Kältehilfe.

Once again, all the info: Warm Up 4 is happening on Dec 8th at Voo Store, Oranienstraße 24 in Kreuzberg. Donations can be dropped off from 17:00, raffle starts at 19:00. And here’s the facebook event.

Of course, we’ll have charity drinks by Companion Coffee and charity cookies by Tausendsünd, whose proceeds will also be donated.

And I’m delighted to say that Boxie24.com, for the third year in a row, is supporting us with their service. Check them out, not only are they a super helpful service to pick up and store all things for you, they also offer more sustainable, re-usable plastic boxes!
