While most food-trend-forecasters (that’s a real job, yes) might bet their money on Mexican food to rule Berlin this coming months, I am personally rooting for the rediscovery of West, Central and East African food. Admittedly a region to big to assemble under one label, it seems so unjustifiably underrepresented in the Berlin food scene, that creating a generous label might proof handy for my own discovery. However, the least underrepresented of those national cuisines is definitely Ethiopia’s. And one very delicious example is located just off the canal in Kreuzberg: Langano.

What a feast it was. And not only for the 80 Burger Feast ticket holders with early entry and the chance to eat all the burgers at last Saturday’s Burgers & Hip Hop at Prince Charles. Over 500 votes for the Berlin’s Best Burger competition were collected during the afternoon, evening and night for creations filled with bacon jam, nori leafs, or kimchi patty goodness, with seven vendors from all over town serving you burger bliss garnished with massive beats. And not only to meat-lovers, all of them created a vegetarian version, some even vegan.
But who made the best burger, you ask? Who wooed the crowds? Was it Geist im Glas’ experimental approach serving burgers with a shot of whisky, or Papi Crunch’s daring addition of black pudding? Here are the results:
Many times I’ve considered the idea of assembling a best-of list comprising my absolute favorite Berlin spots. Yet instead of writing up a listicle, we once again left the safe paths of the web to move into the thrilling field of print. It took some paper wrangling and some heightened discussion over the merits of one location over another, but now that it’s finished I am very proud to say: the map is here!
For today’s scenic running I am taking you to my absolute favorite running route in Berlin – I’ve been running this route when I first started running in Berlin and have been using it as my favorite half marathon training route the past couple weeks. What I love about it? First, you’re running by the beautiful Landwehrkanal and the Spree, and running by the water is always something special. Second, it’s so flexible, you can run 5k, 10k, 15k and even 20k without ever having to leave the parks or Spree or having to take the same way back (just switch the sides of the canal). Come with me…
