It’s getting dark really, really early, doesn’t it? It’s the same decline every year and I won’t ever get used to it. The one thing I wanna do is go to bed at 18:00, which doesn’t go very well with my schedule. Also, it’s going to get worse! The only thing that might help? A strong and delicious coffee. Let me recommend you this Vietnamese variety: ca phe is freshly brewed using a stainless steel filter and a darker roast – Qua Phe in Mitte serves a particularly delicious one that will give you some of the much needed energy to get through the many dark winter days to come.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again: Little Joy is currently serving the most interesting brunch dishes in Berlin. Where can I eat them, you ask? At several locations in the city, and regularly at this fancy new coffee spot in Mitte: 19 grams Chaussee. While looking like almost every new coffee place, this one’s special because it not only gets its brunch menu from Little Joy, but its coffee is presented by one of the big guns in the Berlin coffee business: Trez Cabezas.
Yet again you guys have proved to be the best of fans. Not the mist, the cold, not even the dreary gray clouds kept you from us at Burgers & Hiphop at Prince Charles this Saturday. At least the smell of bacon cut through iffy weather, am I right? The salt, the maple, the ever so slightly charred aroma kept even the lightest of eaters coming back for seconds (or thirds). Big thanks to our incredible vendors this round. They all toughened it out and came up with patties layered with condiments to i-m-p-r-e-s-s: machego crisps, wurst, homemade bbq, sautéed vegetables (separate burgers). Not surprisingly, competition this year was tough and well fought out. The night closed with a well fed crowd dancing to the tunes of Beyoncé and Biggie Smalls: the mist, it turns out, is great for cooling off.
The best week of food is starting today – with the Stadt Land Food festival, we Berliners are showered with a plethora of possibilities to not only enjoy the best of local food, but also to educate ourselves in the questions of sustainability, learn more about food production and distribution, experience the many different producers and produce, and eat all the best food while we’re at it. All based on the important question what we as a society can do for an agriculture that is better for farmers, animals, plants and consumers. (Read my interview from 2014 with campaign leader Jochen Fritz to find out more.)
As with every great festival, the mere number of things happening can be overwhelming, which is why I collected a selection of workshops, presentations and events happening now until October 3rd, hope this helps!
This has been a long time coming, of all the themed Burgers & Hip Hop parties, this is probably the one getting all of us the most excited: we’re entering BACON PARADISE! Gathering our beloved crew and seven burger artists from all around town to get that bacon going, we’re celebrating a greasy round of burger fun on October 1st at Prince Charles. Join us in the bacon pits, to prepare you for the coldest season and protect ya speck! Read on to find out who’s grillin’ and get your hands on the coveted Burger Feast tickets that will give you all the burgers (and more)!
