Ramen in Berlin: Takumi NINE

A new ramen place has come to Berlin! A city that is rather spoiled when it comes to this Japanese noodle soup thanks to Cocolo, who’s been serving delicious ramen since I don’t even know when (at least 2006). Will this new contester, who comes directly from the heart of Germany’s Japanese community, Düsseldorf, be able to win hearts, maybe even dethrone the favorite?

Best of: The 10 Most Popular Food Places of 2015

2015 is over, my friends, time to take a look back on what this year has accomplished. While the big picture is quite depressing, a smaller, more local picture, maybe one limited to the food-related parts of life, actually makes a good one – Berlin’s food scene has definitely grown beyond all expectations, the number of new openings made it hard to follow, but the old players definitely had something to add to the game as well. 2015 was in fact so packed with food experiences, it makes me almost scared for the coming year, how’s one supposed to keep up?! I don’t expect this food-evolvement to end very soon – Lucky us & Guten Rutsch!

Fine Dining in Kreuzberg: Nobelhart & Schmutzig

By now, it’s been four weeks since I finally accepted Billy Wagner’s invitation in what certainly is Berlin’s most regarded new opening of 2015: Nobelhart & Schmutzig. And I am still indulging in memories. Opened in February, the fine dining place on the Southern end of Friedrichstraße made it into the news with its radical concept of local cooking – they don’t even use pepper! But this is certainly not their most impressing feature.

Drinking in Berlin: Pauly Bar

Imagine one of those Berlin December nights, lights out at 5pm, the weather cold, probably wet, and the mood low, with a winter depression lurking around the corner. Then, a warmly lit bar, cosy couches, nice bartenders, a good choice of booze, some easy, non-disturbing music. And a freshly fried, whole cauliflower placed directly in front of you, ready to be devoured with your drink of choice. Welcome to Pauly Bar.
