Did you know, that a third of each harvest is rejected because the crop doesn’t match produce-beauty-standards!? Double-legged carrots, giant zucchinis or bulbous potatoes never reach the supermarkets just because of their looks. The Berlin initiative Culinary Misfits works against produce-lookism, by providing a usage for those veggie-freaks. While they mostly worked in catering and events since their founding in 2012, this July finally marked the start of their own café: Culinary Misfits in Kreuzberg is now open!
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin is never only about design based in Berlin – besides myriads of newcomers from all over Germany, it regularly attracts designers from other European countries with one of the most steady participants being Romania.
The Romanian fashion scene might be small, but it has its highlights and certainly a powerful support from local audience and government. For over four seasons a selection of Romanian designers have been showing their latest work at Berlin fashion week and the designers used the time to enjoy all the amenities of our city. Like Adelina Ivan, who I met at Bite Club Mitte this past Saturday, where she not only presented her new designs but also happily indulged in the vegan treats Mitte’s favorite street food market had to offer.
Burgers & Hip Hop happened at Prince Charles last Saturday and it was a hot mess. Literally.
While it started out a little slower than usual, the place filled quickly in the early evening with loads of burger lovers (sorry we had to close the door for a short time). Not only the grills were burning but the whole club – thanks to the sun, but also thanks to a hot competition. All vendors were eager to beat two-time-winner District Mot and their experimental steamed bun burger, and one of them put the stakes even higher: much acclaimed newcomer Tommi’s Burger came to the party with their classic, clean cheeseburger that many fans already call the best burger in Berlin.
As always, the public has voted – over 340 votes were handed in and we had fun counting them (see some samples here). And you might not believe, what they decided:
It’s finally time again for another round of juicy patties and soft buns accentuated with fine beats (Seriously, how long can two months be?!) But now BURGERS & HIP HOP is back. And I am over the moon excited, because two–time winner District Môt will be back to defend the title of Berlin’s Best Burger with their fabulous De La Sauce burger. But the rivals never rest, and the stakes are higher than ever. So you better mark this Saturday in your calendar – it’s time for the next public vote to find Berlin’s Best Burger!
If you were asked to picture your perfect supper, what would it be like? A selection of ham, sliced so thin you can almost look through it? Some cheese, so stinky the taste can only be as savory? And how about some fresh bread which just serves as the best base for the cheeses and hams? Imagine a table filled with these delicacies, and then topped with a bottle of good wine. At Vom Einfachen das Gute, you’ll find all of that! (Including that beautiful table.)
