It certainly wasn’t the weather we were hoping for, but this was no reason to not fire up the trompo, add loads of chili to the salsa, and bring all the fresh coriander – Burgers & Hip Hop was taken over by tacos this past Saturday, celebrating this Mexican street food in loads of varieties. You came, you feasted, and you voted – over 500 votes reached the boxes. So we found current holder of the Burgers & Hip Hop Tacover trophy. Read on to find out who made the tastiest of all the tacos.
You might already know the name “Shaniu” from a previous recommendation for Chinese food on Pariser Straße – just now they added a new spot: Shaniu opened a café a couple doors down the road from her restaurant, calling it Shaniu Café, where she serves Korean food (she’s Chinese-Korean herself) plus, every now and then, Chinese breakfast dishes!
I only know about it because one morning I received an excited text message from my friend Ash Lee, obviously her excitement easily caught me, and sooner than later we were both on the way out West, decoyed by pictures of plump dumplings and thick churros.
As previously mentioned, I do like to take more time for my breakfast, even during the weekday. Even going all the way to Mitte from my beloved Kreuzberg home before 9am to get myself some poached eggs is worth it if they’re as delicious as at Father Carpenter Coffee Brewer.
Be honest, how much did you wait for this? Loads, I bet. Because tacos are, as beloved as they are, still not a common street food in Berlin, and we’re here to change that: the up-coming Burgers & Hip Hop event on April 15th at Prince Charles will be completely taken over by Tacos! We’ll present you seven taco artists, who’re bringing their a-game to finally feed you with all the tacos you can eat. Adding some latin beats, tropical flavors, and all the micheladas you crave. Read on to find out who’s serving you the tastiest corn packages, and get your hands on the limited TACOFEAST ticket!
I imagine if you live and work in Mitte, you want a delicious lunch and you want it fast – something that’s feeding you without making you tired, that’s tickling your taste buds without being unnecessarily experimental – all of which you can find at Qua Phe, the Vietnamese coffee house that serves really good lunch fare.
