Kottbusser Tor is a gritty place, especially in January, when ice cold winds and low grey skies make it look even uglier than usual. However, in between sketchy corners and broken windows lie some extraordinary delicious and friendly places like Doyum, an Anatolian restaurant with an open charcoal grill, and an especially delicious version of a classic Turkish dessert: Künefe.
We’ll heat up the grills, pack on the chili, and invite you to get hot on the dance floor: Burgers & Hip Hop is back on February 4th for its annual winter edition at your favorite club Prince Charles. Freezing temperatures outside don’t prevent us from having all the fun inside. We invited five burger stars from all over Berlin to serve you their bestest take on a burger, added some delicious baked waffle-muffin-hybrids, loads of beats, a couple of drinks and ready is your perfect winter remedy.
It’s fair to say, that I was already growing impatient when it came to Fine Bagel’s Challah French Toast Sunday. So my heart jumped a little when I saw the new announcement on their social media. I attended last summer, and then missed out on at least three of them because I was traveling, and then I guess they took a little break but now they’re back! Why I’m that excited: because Challah French Toast is amazing! Made from the Jewish Challah bread, which is dipped in a very vanilla egg mixture, fried to perfection, and then served with maple sirup it will give you all the good feels needed.
Don’t let the current rays of sun and shine fool you, Berlin winters are the worst! THE WORST!! There are no upsides to freezing temperatures, dark days, low hanging clouds, having to wear the same black coat day in, day out, eating only apples and cabbage because nothing grows in this Siberian climate. But wait, what about long winter nights spent in cosy bars with loads of dark wine, some treats, and good friends to share your desperation with? Isn’t that “nice”? Ja, Ja … I mean, I guess one could call this a delightful way to spend the icy days… especially if natural wine comes together with delicious food in a suprime pairing at this bar in Neukölln one could say there are way worse places to be right now.
Admittedly, Asian-fusion concepts opening up on Torstraße where rents for commercial spaces have sky-rocketed over the past years, don’t necessarily get my hopes up. However, something interested me enough about this new restaurant to put it on my list of the ten new places we all must try, so I went there more or less immediately. And I’m super happy to report: it’s delicious and absolutely perfect for cold winter days!
