Food in London: The Begging Bowl

Before going to London, I asked friends and Facebook for tips on where to eat. And many of them recommended going to The Begging Bowl. Turned out this little Thai restaurant was located just about 500m from where I stayed in the very nice area of Peckham, where loads of things going on right now, yet it still has a quiet and small-town-feel to it.
We arrived at the restaurant way too late, with the kitchen already closed, but begged our way into getting some food and it was so worth it.

Food in London: Silk Road

So, I actually wouldn’t consider myself an expert on Chinese food – The options we have in Berlin are rather limited and not necessarily around the corner, so Chinese food just isn’t on my regular food list.
Anyhow, even before I went to London, I knew I wanted to try as many Asian restaurants as possible, knowing that London has a great culture of Asian food. So we started with Silk Road close by Camberwell Green in Peckham. And boy, would I’ve loved to pack the place up and transplant it to Mitte.

A Shopping, Eating & Drinking Guide to: Brussels

Going to Brussels always means a heavy to-do list, too many interesting museums, too many delicious treats, too much odd yet good beer awaits the traveller in this city. People told me, normally Brussels suffers from an endless grey sky, not so when I was there couple of days ago. Sunny sunshine, very blue skies and warm temperatures made my stay very pleasurable and I can’t wait to come back. Best of: La Biennale di Venezia 2013

I went to Venice to attend the opening of the 2013 Biennale last week, and despite the dreary weather and the long lines in front of everything of interest, I’m already planning to go again in two years. Nevertheless, the exhibition “Il Palazzo Enciclopedico” in the Arsenale and the Central Pavillon, that was curated by Massimiliano Gioni, and the more than 80 participating countries with exhibitions in the Giardini and in spaces spread all over the city, is still on view until November and should be a must-see for everyone interested in contemporary art. On the Road: Uzbek Food

I returned from Uzbekistan a couple of days before and am still impressed by the mix of influences the country is shaped by. This is reflected in the food, which is in itself a mixture of Arabic, Turkish, Russian and Asian cuisines. The main component is meat, mostly mutton but also beef and goat is served.
