It’s almost time, you guys! The big birthday Breakfast Market feast celebrating this very blog’s 10th birthday is happening this Sunday at Markthalle Neun! Unless you follow me on Snapchat (find me as stilinberlin, obvs), you don’t yet know that I visited three of my breakfast superstars and photographed (and tested) what they’ll be serving on Sunday – just to make your mouths water a little more in anticipation. And it’s insanely delicious – they’ve certainly put in some passion and creativity to make sure we’re having meaty, vegetarian and vegan options you can’t find anywhere else in Berlin at this time of day. So get your stomachs ready and start drooling now:

The breakfast market has established itself as a once-a-month Sunday breakfast-haven by now, where delicious morning-foods from all over the world like pulled pork sandwiches, eggs benedict, porridge and congee, are served to more-or-less awake eaters. For this Sunday’s edition the organizers have teamed up with Groove magazine’s Heiko Hoffmann to combine food and music!

It’s so lovely to watch Berlin grow as a foodie-city and enjoy its rising fame and the fruits of a decade-long development. 2014 has been an especially good year for food in Berlin, not only because I discovered new favorites and cherished old time loves, we enjoyed great food festivals, listened to kitchen tunes and watched new initiatives bloom, but because you, the readers, have developed an even bigger craving for recommendations and then showered the reviewed places with loads of love making their effort worthwhile. 2015 holds new promises, but let’s rest for a moment and praise the stars of the past year with a list of the ten most popular food places of 2014.
I don’t even know if this is a big announcement or not, but I do know that only few things are able to make me as nervous as this new idea. Spending my days discovering, watching, testing and writing about all the foodie-endeavours happening in Berlin right now, lead me closer to this idea of trying out my own food-idea. The best place to try it is the upcoming Breakfast Market and so it will be: Mary’s will premiere this Sunday at Markthalle 9 and we will probably go down in a green smoothie chaos… but at least we’ll have fun!
I’ve said it before and I’ll says it again – against all prevailing expectations – Berlin doesn’t have a great breakfast-scene. Besides the usual croissant with coffee, there’s basically only the mixed plate filled with more or less unremarkable cheese, fruits and spreads. I am exaggerating, obviously, but only because the end of breakfast-tediousness is near! The guys of Markthalle 9 came up with a fabulous new idea: The Breakfast Market. So fabulous indeed, that without any promotion (besides some printed flyers), the event already attracted 2,800 morning-eaters to click “attend” on Facebook.
Lucky me, I got a very early preview on what the market has to offer in terms of early-day-dishes and I can already tell you it will be a feast. You better go easy on that Saturday-night-dinner because it will be packed with delicious options from hearty pork belly to light wheat grass. But take a look for yourself:
