It’s a well known fact that Brammibal’s is not only making the best vegan donuts in town, but the best donuts in general. But did you know that besides baking a plethora of ring-shaped delicacies every day, you can also enjoy an equally lavish while still completely vegan brunch at their place by the canal in Neukölln?
So, as you know, I really like Silo’s breakfast fare. But there’s a major downside: it’s in Friedrichshain. Yeah, I get it, #notallfriedrichshain. But each time I give the neighborhood a shot I end up unconvinced and feeling icky. However, Silo ventured out into Mitte, and opened a second location inside of the Circus Hotel at Rosenthaler Platz! With an all-day breakfast menu! Served in a pretty and quiet garden where you can escape the Mitte rush! And enjoy your brioche french toast with berry mascarpone in peace.
Coming back from Venice and the opening of the Biennale di Arte, I needed some me-time. No crowds, no lines, no waiting, no mediocre food at exorbitant prices. And found myself next to the canal early on Sunday, dropping into one of my favourite spots to have coffee and a sandwich, Populus Coffee, to discover they do more fancy brunch dishes on the weekend!
My, it’s been too long already. Almost four months since we had the chance to feast on the excellent brunch dishes of sisters Sophie and Xenia von Oswald at their crowd-pleasing Das Brunch event. For the spring edition – happening on April 1st – they moved north to Wedding’s Silent Green, a former crematorium, now landmark turned arts center and café. I’m delighted to present you the menu, that has everything we waited for so many winter months: Asparagus! Fresh spring greens! Rhubarb! All served with a heavy load of Middle Eastern delicacies like the tart Sumac spice, green chili paste better known as Zhough, cardamom, chickpeas, star anise. And a super special extra appearance of the much beloved Fine Bagels’ Challah French Toast.
By now, having brunch on the weekend needs to be planned, aka making reservations or showing up quite early to still score a table. However, don’t underestimate the power of a rather excessive breakfast during the week. How about taking your time on a Friday morning, get down to Neukölln’s cutesy, inner-city village called Rixdorf, enter the pretty location of Hallmann & Klee and enjoy a plate of charcuterie, cheese, soft boiled eggs, and obviously don’t forget to order the pancakes.
