Life in Silver Lake basically centers around Silver Lake Junction, an agglomeration of several cafés, a cheese and a flower store at the crossing of Sunset Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd, with the main attraction being Intelligentsia, a third wave coffee house with all-hat-wearing* barristas.
After a highly caffeinated week, we’ve finished our guide to the best coffee in Berlin. The coffee culture here has been somewhat lacking, but a slew of third wave coffee bars have opened up in the past few years, with an army of New Zealander and Australian baristas. The focus of this guide is on the coffee itself, and not necessarily the cafe (although most of the cafes we’ve listed are also some of the best places to hang out as well).
Meet (a part of) the crew of The Barn, a super-small coffee store on a side-street of Auguststraße. Though it’s been only open for little more than one and a half year, it already found its way into the hearts of coffee-lovers from all over the city. Along with luscious sandwiches, quiches, Cannelés and cakes, they offer delicious coffees, brewed by specialists in such a refined way, you might never forget your first The Barn espresso (at least, I won’t).
