Nothing beats comfort food, and I consider hummus to be one of my favorite comfort foods – delicious chickpeas mashed with tahini and cumin into a heart-warming paste to be devoured with fresh flat bread… divine! There’s more than one recipe for hummus and I like them all, may they be Israeli or Syrian, and I am very happy I found a new favorit in Wedding, although I have no idea what nationality is behind it: Akko is a deli at the bustling crossing of Pank- and Badstraße and is equally busy. But neither the hectic atmosphere nor the simple, almost canteen-like interior say anything about the quality of the food.
The myth of Berlin’s multiculturalism, its mix of many different cultures and nationalities prevails as one of its current perks. While it’s actually a very German, very white society shaping this city, and more of a coexistence of several ethnic groups rather than a real mixture. This Berlin (or German) characteristic gets all the more clear to me when travelling and seeing cities with an actual diverse community.
However the various residents of Berlin mostly mix in one certain place – an arabic food vendor.
It’s not like I have any idea about Israeli food, so I was even more interested in Sababa, a fairly new Israeli restaurant/imbiss on Kastanienallee.
