The thing is, why wouldn’t you eat Käsespätzle for breakfast? Especially if they come with a poached egg on top, roasted mushrooms, spicy dukkah, dill oil, and oven dried onion (9 Euro)? Not in for the Käsespätzle fun? How about a poached egg on top of beet puree, mangold, ruccola and pomegranate salad with roasted veggies and fermented pomegranate skin jus (8 Euro)? Or maybe buttermilk biscuits with creme fraiche scrambled eggs, sausage and gravy (9 Euro)?? Yeah I know, this all sounds amazing! And it’s here for you to eat every single weekend at the just opened Sweethearts café in a quiet side street off Hermannstraße.

2016 has been a very long year, and oftentimes not a pretty one. And it still has four days left, so I won’t bid farewell too soon (to not give it any ideas!), but it’s about time for my annual report of what’s been most popular on this very blog. Because for the very limited world of this humble blog, it’s been a good year. Not only did we celebrate ten years of it: first with a lavish birthday dinner, and then with a grande breakfast market, but there was also the second edition of The Map, a very successful third clothing donation rally, loads of fun times at Burgers & Hip Hop, and a dessert-only extravaganza. I’ve enjoyed it a lot to be able to work on this outlet describing Berlin’s greatness, and am more than proud that enough people are interested reading my musings.
When it comes to Little Joy, I might be biased, because they once gave me one of their amazing peanut butter and chocolate bars and I’ve been in love with everything they ever did since then. But literally everybody I introduce to the food of this collective is now equally smitten, so I’m inclined to state this as a fact: Little Joy is serving the best brunch food right now. And here’s their new winter menu!
I’ve said it before and I will say it again: Little Joy is currently serving the most interesting brunch dishes in Berlin. Where can I eat them, you ask? At several locations in the city, and regularly at this fancy new coffee spot in Mitte: 19 grams Chaussee. While looking like almost every new coffee place, this one’s special because it not only gets its brunch menu from Little Joy, but its coffee is presented by one of the big guns in the Berlin coffee business: Trez Cabezas.
Brunch’s been getting real good in Berlin. Seriously, unexpectedly good. While a few years ago the poached egg was only found at upscale hotels, no serious morning food venture can write its menu without, today. However, not everyone manages to cook it to perfection (and can we please remember that other treatments also suit that yolk well), but those who poach it right rank high on my list. Here’s a new one, that could also be called big, huge, or even giant, but is actually going by the name Little Joy.
