Thing is, I didn’t really like donuts. At least the type I knew, which was made by the big orange and pink D, who formed my idea of what a donut is a bit too much. When several people urged me to try the donuts of Brammbibal’s Donuts some time last year I was seriously like, “Nah, thanks, I’m good”, in the beginning. But then! I tasted one and since then I’m a devoted member of Team Donut. Team Brammibal’s Donuts, that is. I wouldn’t wanna risk my newly found love with a quick cheat. Here’s why…
I put this one in the list of 10 new places you have to try this Autumn, although it was already open for about a year. Because whatever, I hadn’t heard about it before and was too intrigued to double-check when I saw they had Shakshouka on the menu. In case you didn’t know, it’s a dish where eggs are poached in a sauce of tomatoes, chili peppers, and onions, often spiced with cumin, and it is delicious as breakfast food. Gordon, a café / record shop in – where else – Neukölln serves a very fine version of this homey comfort food. Which is why it is now part of the quick and easy breakfast guide.
This beauty is a rice pudding and raspberry cake I had at BullysBakery the other day. The place might not look super special and the selection is not necessarily big, but their pastry is really delicious! And these delicacies console for the fact they gave up on the Flammkuchen. Perfect pick-me-up on a gloomy weekday.
Ah, another add-on to our brunch-directory! And what a hefty one. It’s pretty much common knowledge that brunch is a dish best served with cocktails, right? Being that it was originally conceived as a “lighter” meal for those Saturday night carousers who could seriously do with a pick-me-up the morning after. What better then than a top-notch bar that serves food? Indeed. Lucky us! Because your favourite Kreuzkölln Whisky-bar Geist im Glas now serves a killer brunch, meaning that you can (or should?) pretty much just stay there for the whole weekend.
Lunch on a workday can be tough. You want something healthy yet filling, enough to carry you through the rest of the day. You want something new, yet nothing experimental because time and focus are limited. You want something close by, yet not too close because you need the walk…Or am I only talking about my own needs at noon? Because on paper, that sounds a bit complicated. And yet, there are places catering to such demands, and here’s a new one: Stella.
