On an especially chilly July Saturday, I found myself in a cute little café on a quiet side street of Schillerkiez in Neukölln, browsing the breakfast menu after an hour of play on the Tempelhofer airfield with the dog. And while usually my appetite goes for chia pudding, poached eggs, or loads of avocado and other things on sourdough bread, this time, I was actually in the mood for a classic, German breakfast. Yeah, it was surprising to me too, after so many years of calling for extravagant morning food creations, I craved the simple dish with assorted cheese, jam, fruits and veggies. Easy to explain though, I grew up like this. And I was lucky to be at No58 Speiserei when the nostalgia hit me, because they do the classic so very well.
