A sweet, savory, spicy, salty, smokey, and sour year comes to an end. Berlin had it all: ups and downs and turn-it-all-arounds. With 69 articles, over 20 entirely new and very exciting spots, a re-designed online map, an ice-cream feast, a Veggie Bite Club, another round of successful clothing donations, and a very new printed map added to the stilinberlin family in 2017, it’s been a busy year with loads of dining, feasting, and yes, digesting on my side. Here’s a round-up of the most popular things on the blog this year.
2015 is over, my friends, time to take a look back on what this year has accomplished. While the big picture is quite depressing, a smaller, more local picture, maybe one limited to the food-related parts of life, actually makes a good one – Berlin’s food scene has definitely grown beyond all expectations, the number of new openings made it hard to follow, but the old players definitely had something to add to the game as well. 2015 was in fact so packed with food experiences, it makes me almost scared for the coming year, how’s one supposed to keep up?! I don’t expect this food-evolvement to end very soon – Lucky us & Guten Rutsch!
It’s so lovely to watch Berlin grow as a foodie-city and enjoy its rising fame and the fruits of a decade-long development. 2014 has been an especially good year for food in Berlin, not only because I discovered new favorites and cherished old time loves, we enjoyed great food festivals, listened to kitchen tunes and watched new initiatives bloom, but because you, the readers, have developed an even bigger craving for recommendations and then showered the reviewed places with loads of love making their effort worthwhile. 2015 holds new promises, but let’s rest for a moment and praise the stars of the past year with a list of the ten most popular food places of 2014.
Is it just me or did the second half of 2013 go by in what felt like two seconds? Wasn’t it just summer? Inevitably, the year is over. And despite some minor and major confusions, it’s been a good year I’d say. Not only for me personally, but for this blog as well. The food section turned out to be the most popular, is by now kind of dominating all the others and had a grand finale in December’s first Berlin’s Best Bread competition. But shopping at the independent Berlin boutiques is still on our list, as is local fashion and art, and then there was the tremendously successful clothing donation event Warm Up!
I am also very glad you readers welcomed a new author, Toby Ashraf, presenting small films in his column Discover This (don’t miss his best of 2013 films list here!).
2014 will see some changes for this very blog (as every year), you might meet new authors and new topics, nevertheless, the focus will stay the same: portray Berlin in all its contemporary beauty.
Guten Rutsch and Happy New Year!
2012 has been a great year for stilinberlin, at least in my perspective. There were dozens of food and shop recommendations, some guides and interviews with my favorit people of Berlin, there was a stilinberlin shop and there was (and still is) a lipstick with uslu airlines. There was quite some travel, some covered on the blog, some done for Vogue Germany, for whom I’ve been honored to photograph the whole year around. With over 200 published articles, I thought a quick look on what’s been the most read might make sense. And the best thing is – I researched this year’s recap in the all shiny and new layout, that will hopefully launch soon. Yes, you read it right, there will be a new layout after almost seven years on the same simple and now almost retro look. Until all changes have been made, you’ll have to enjoy the top 10 list on the old blog, but I guarantee you that we’re working hard on it…
Guten Rutsch! And Happy New Year!
