At Home: Despina Stokou
Meet the wonderful Despina, the sedulous force behind so many projects and professions, you might not believe she still had the time to welcome me in her small apartment full of character in Mitte.
At Home: Kavita Meelu
I've been living in Berlin for over ten years now and I still don't get the feeling I discovered everything that's worth discovering, I still feel like there are tons of restaurants, shops, food stores, galleries, movie theaters etc out there, that I don't even have an idea of.When I met Kavita just some weeks ago, this proved to be true once more.
At Home: Nella Rieken & Martin Aleith
Visiting Nella and Martin in her Mitte Plattenbau flat turned out to be the perfect Saturday activity – while having a coffee and chat with Nella, her daughter Tessa decided to build a road of books from the living room all the way to the kitchen, and finally invited us for a game of Mensch ärgere Dich nicht, a classic German board game.
At Home: Martin Niklas Wieser & Darryl Natale
These are Martin Niklas Wieser and Darryl Natale in their home in Kreuzberg with their cat Mia and her best friend Totoro. I am quite sure many of you know both of them, Martin because of him being a very talented young fashion designer and Darryl because of the tremendous work he did for this very blog in the past years.
At Home: Melanie Jeske
You know what, we Berliners should all go to Hamburg more often. Seriously, it's a beautiful city and home to some very smart and very enjoyable people, like Melanie.
At home: Nhu Duong
Nhu Duong is one of those Berlin people, actually she's Swedish (and born in Ho Chi Minh City), anyway– I always wanted to get to know her and was more than happy, to finally have the chance. She invited me into her home in Schöneberg, a big Altbau apartment with a weird layout that makes its bourgeois features (very high ceilings, stucco, old ovens and huge windows) actually a little less intimidating and gives it a very homey feel. But that's not so much why I wanted to meet her…
At Home: Maryam Zaree
Maryam Zaree just moved into her new apartment in Kreuzberg, a beautiful two-room flat in a rather dull building from the 50s.
At Home: Leena Zimmermann
When I first met Leena, I was instantly amazed by her elegant and yet so contemporary style and charisma. I immediately wanted to photograph her - but it took me quite some time to persuade her, since she doesn't like being pictured. When I visited her in her Mitte apartment, we spend an hour chatting about her job, Berlin, life and fashion, before I took my camera to take this candid shot. And when I send her a selection of pictures, out of all the more "posed" shots we took, she chose this one image, which I initially called an "outtake", because I thought she might consider it to be too intimate. Needless to say I was more than happy, when she asked me to publish this one.
At Home: Vladimir Karaleev
I must admit, there have been way too few people on this blog, that once started out with only people. But my travels, the store and many other exciting new things have kept me from taking portraits, somehow. This shall have an end now! And how better to restart than with an at home portrait I wanted to take for so long!
At Home: Alfons Klosterfelde and Carolin Würfel
Alfons and Carolin live in a very berlinesque Altbau in Neukölln.
At Home: Fiete Stolte
To visit Fiete Stolte I went deep into the woods of Wedding, where the artist chose to live a hermit life just by a lake. This is of course completely exaggerated, the truth is a little less extreme.
At home & Interview: Dena
There's a science behind the ideal summer jam: it needs to be peppy, silly, and catchy. Dena's genius "Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools" hits all our buttons, but it was the fantastic fleamarket-set video that really made the internet sit up and hit replay again and again. It was high time StilinBerlin's music expert Florian Duijsens met this Bulgarian artist to talk about just how she pulled off writing 2012's perfect summer jam.
At Home: Adrian Bleschke
Adrian is a young architect living in a small one-bedroom apartment in Mitte.
At Home: Roger Eberhard
This is the Swiss photographer Roger Eberhard in his Berlin Mitte apartment.
At Home: Shane Anderson
I met Shane Anderson several years ago, when we worked together for Theatertreffen. He's a young writer living in Neukölln, and though I of course bought his first book that was just published by Broken Dimanche Press and is called Études des Gottnarrenmaschinen, I wouldn't dare to say I understand most of the references he's using.
At Home: Raphael Hauber
Meeting someone for the first time when he opens the door to his apartment is always kind of weird and very exciting. I asked Raphael out of the blue if I could portray him for the At Home series, since I've seen his work several times and generously liked it.
At Home: Hien Le
Hien Le is a young fashion designer based in Berlin, that I met several years ago when he was working with Vladimir Karaleev.
At Home: Horst Meier
I've known (and admired) Horst Meier for years and had to wait equally long until he welcomed me in his apartment in Frankfurt's red light district. It was definitely worth the wait, seeing his spotless and perfectly furnished flat that lies just above several dubious casinos and strip clubs.
At the studio: Achtland
Achtland is the label of Thomas Bentz (left) and Oliver Lühr, or rather the realization of a long-standing idea of building up a high-end, ready-to-wear label that is based in Berlin.
At Home: Iris and Valentin von Arnim
When I was in Hamburg last month, I also visited the queen of cashmere in her home, Iris von Arnim.
